Tessa Peterson, DVM
Dr. Peterson graduated from Gustavus Adolphus in Minnesota in 2001 with her bachelors degree and from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Originally from Colorado, Dr. Peterson joined the practice at M-20 Animal Hospital part time in 2009. Dr. Peterson has special interests in internal medicine, surgery, ultrasound and pocket pets. When not working she enjoys spending time with her husband Jon, two sons and their dogs (Mason a Boxer-German Shorthair cross and Joules a Collie Mix). They enjoy traveling across the U.S. and internationally to visit family and friends
Megan Tomich, DVM
Dr. Megan Tomich grew up in rural southeast Ohio and is a 2004 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating she worked at a mixed animal practice near her hometown in Ohio for a few years before moving to Michigan with her family. Dr. Tomich has a special interest in preventative and shelter medicine, soft tissue surgery, and the human-animal bond. She lives in Midland, MI with her husband and their 4 children. Their pet family includes 3 cats, 13 chickens and their dog, Molly. In her spare time she enjoys boating, gardening, reading and attending her children’s various activities.

Sarah Gushow, LVT, Medical Director
Sarah Gushow is our Licensed Veterinary Technician. Following her graduation from Baker College in 2009, she joined our team in 2011 coming from our sister clinic Bay Animal Hospital in Essexville. We are delighted to have such a wealth of knowledge on our team. Sarah comes to us with 12 years experience working in veterinary medicine. In her free time Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors with her two children, Carter and Lauren, her husband Craig, her Standard Poodle Charlie, and her misfit cat Gus Gus.
Nicole Richardson, Office Manager
Nicole has been a wonderful addition to our team. She brings organizational skills that we did not even understand we were missing.
“I joined the M20 Animal Hospital team in 2019. I have many years of customer service and clerical experience in the banking industry. I like to organize just for fun and playing board games. Mostly I enjoy time with my husband, son and my extended family. Of course I also enjoy playing with my kitties, Pixie and Bella.”

Caitlyn joined us to do her clinicals to finish her LVT Program at Baker college of Cadillac. We saw the opportunity to get her to join our team before anyone else had the opportunity to steal her away.

Candice Hunter, Veterinary Technician
Candice has been a member of the M-20 team since 2014, and has worked in the veterinary field for over 20 years. She enjoys traveling with her husband Shawn especially to Mackinac Island and has a soft spot for misfit pets. They have a cross eyed cat, a 1 eyed cat, a cat with no eyes, and 2 dogs.
Justina Ellis, Veterinary Technician
Justina was welcomed to M-20 in May of 2018. She also has several years of being in the veterinary field. She enjoys hunting, gardening, and spending time with her husband Mark, son Cohen, and step daughter Maddie.

Melissa joined our team in 2016. She loves baking, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her dogs Oatis, and Mini.

Jack Hertel, Owner
Jack is a native of Michigan, living in Essexville for a majority of his life. He is a graduate of Garber High School, and Saginaw Valley State University, where he has B.S. in science and chemistry. He is a technology enthusiast and has used those skills to build a career with computers. Jack has known Dr. Francke his entire life, and became partners in purchasing M20 Animal Hospital in 2003. He has been a long time cat and dog owner, currently being the proud owner of three cats.
